POSTPARTUM

MAKE A REAL CHANGE

Congrats, mama! You brought a beautiful baby into the world! Now you may be wondering, when, if ever, will your body feel like “normal” again? Do you suffer from pelvic organ prolapse, leaking/incontinence, pain, or have a persistent diastastis recti? Although it is very common to experience these symptoms after having a baby, it is not normal. It is an indication that something in your body is not functioning correctly.

Pregnancy and delivering a baby affect your entire body, from your head to your feet. If you had any underlying orthopedic issues, they may be exacerbated in the postpartum period. You may have noticed changes in the size or shape of your ribcage and pelvis. You may have developed chronic neck, shoulder, or back pain from nursing, lifting, and carrying your baby. You may be wondering why your body can’t handle your typical pre-baby exercise routine.

Whether you are 5 weeks or 5 years (or more!) postpartum and still experiencing these symptoms, you can make real change, and we are here to help! Whether your goal is simply to confidently lift a heavy stroller or get back to running marathons, we want to help you meet your goals.

What is postpartum rehab? A program to improve your posture and breathing, safely strengthen your core and pelvic floor, and teach you optimal body mechanics for everything required for daily life with your children. Our postpartum evaluations look at your entire body and see how it is operating as a unit, to identify which parts are not participating as they should, and which ones are “cheating” and working too hard, both of which can lead to dysfunction and persistent symptoms. You will receive hands-on work to help alleviate any tight joints or muscles, and a guided, individualized exercise program that is progressed each week as your body is ready for new challenges.

Disclaimer: This program includes manual therapy and exercise prescription. It does not include an internal pelvic exam, biofeedback, or internal manual therapy. Please see a pelvic floor PT/women’s health PT for these services.
